Size of team

The size of your team should be roughly around 10 members. 


At the very minimum you are going to need to following for shooting a short film on DV:



  • A camera operator to run the camera. 
  • A boom operator to run the boom which should be plugged into your camera. 
  • Two grips to move and set up the lighting for each set up. 
  • Two PAs, one serving as a general assistant to the grips, the other serving as a general assistant to the camera op and boom op. 
Experience

For your short film, the more experience you have on your team the better. People will experience and knowledge on the production of short film know what works and what does not work. They will give you the guidance you need to make your short film look profession as possible, yet at the same time include your vision of how you want it to be. 


Resourcing 

It is a good idea to find a way to recruit experienced crew members that you need for your production. Googling "resource personnel" it comes up with a variety of recruitment agencies such as "Platinum resourcing" and "advantage resourcing". Resourcing is good because it allows you too get that professional feel to your short film through experienced crew members. 

Availability 

How can you recruit people when they are not available? You always need to make sure that the people you are recruiting are able to work on the days that you are shooting. It is a good idea to consider contingency when recruiting people in case they are unable to work on the set days. 

Costs


People per hour website allows you to view who you need for talent. It can range from anything from £30 to £90 an hour based on their experience. You need to make sure that you have the money in your budget to pay for recruitment, all in all it will be down to them to make your vision come to life on the screen. 

Crew CV's 

A good way to find people for your production is through advertising the job role and looking through peoples CV's. The better the CV the more interested you will be in them.
