Personnel

Personnel is every person you need in order to successfully begin the production. For a feature film, this would include a vast amount of personnel to ensure that every aspect of production can be covered and controlled.

For a short film, the personnel would be small scale due to the production being significantly smaller than a feature film. A skeleton crew would be required. A skeleton crew is the minimum crew that you would hire to ensure that the production can be completed by the time of the deadline.

A skeleton crew would consist of:

  • camera operator
  • sound recorder
  • editor
  • director
  • producer

Limitations and risks

Limitations for your short film could be anything from distance of the shoot to the weather on the day of the shoot.

Distance: Distance can be a problem for some people if they live far away from the location of the shoot. If they really cant get to the shoot then some sort of transportation can be arranged to pick them up and take them to the location of the shoot.

Access: Access to your shoot, if people cannot access the whereabouts of your shoot then you will ned to provide transportation for them to get there.

Cost: Make sure that you have thought about all costs and added them all up, this is so you do not go over your budget. The worse thing would be needing something but you've gone out of your budget so you cannot pay for it.

Weather: High winds can be a risk to the equipment. They can be blown over or damaged by wind or rain. Preferably take caution when the weather is bad.

Identification

Recce? What is a recce ?

A recce is when you need to consider having a plan B for every aspect of your short film production, if something suddenly goes wrong you will always have something to fall back on.

A recce is an essential part of the preparation and research processes to meet potential contributors, assess locations and research stories.  Carry out as many recces as your budget and time will allow as this will arm you with information that you can use to plan your script and filming schedule.

For example, You have been waiting for months to film your shoot, it comes down to the day of the shoot and your camera man calls in sick last minute. If you did not have recces then you would be in serious panic... However because you have considered recces, you call in your plan B camera man so the shoot can continue like nothing ever happened.
